Need consideration of population still on d-up. Keeping access to “old tech” is a necessary and good thing. Prevents disenfranchisement. Need to remember not to cut off this “alternative” route as back up but remember also only access to subset of population. It could prove the most critical in a positive way. Does anyone have SME knowledge of backbone under an emergency with everybody going full speed ahead all at the same time? I assume something like that must be done on some regular test basis either with the gov or with the networkers or both. I would be interested of seeing the results and the projections so far. Some of this is a bit beyond my abilities (I’m not a networking gal), but I know that increased traffic of students on the IU servers is always a bit painful at times and I’ve seen the Internet “drop” out at times. Right after mentionting this in a thread to Dr. Ho and Neil, I came across this recent article which sheds some of its thoughts on this: Financial firms confident about pandemic plans — but telecommuting may be wishful thinking

How can we address this?
